A Poem of Refuge and Strength
When shadows gather and the night grows long, when troubles whisper that I don’t belong, I lift my eyes beyond my trembling fear. My fortress stands, unshaken, ever near. Stone of my soul, unbreachable and high, under Your shelter, no harm can draw nigh. In battlements of mercy, strong and sure, You hold my heart; in You I rest secure. Storms may assail and tempests may arise, yet in Your arms, my weary spirit flies.
You are the rampart I could never build, a shield of love, my every longing filled. Though arrows fly and enemies surround, within Your walls, no evil can be found. Your faithful presence, steadfast through the night,
turns deepest darkness into dawning light. My Refuge, Tower, Sanctuary, and Sun, Defender of my heart, my only One. Each day I run to You and find Your peace, Your strength my song, my hope that will not cease.
So let the world resound with anxious cry. My God, my Fortress, ever standing by. With trust unbroken, I rejoice and sing:
Safe in Your love, I lack not anything.
